Grant recipients include 11 Fresno nonprofits

Golden 1 Credit Union (Golden 1) today announced the recipients of its Community Grant Program for 2018. The credit union has awarded 11 organizations in the Fresno region a total of more than $142,000 to advance literacy initiatives and aid foster youth as they transition into adulthood. Among this year’s recipients is CASA of Fresno and Madera Counties.

“Golden 1’s dedication to our members extends to the diverse communities we serve throughout California. Through our Community Grant Program, we have the opportunity to help nonprofits achieve their goals to provide youth with the skills they need to succeed and become future leaders,” said Erica Taylor, Vice President of Communications and Community Relations for Golden 1. “We are honored to contribute to causes that make a positive impact and ensure today’s youth can flourish.”

One of this year’s Golden 1 Community Grant recipients, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Fresno and Madera Counties, speaks for abused and neglected children in the foster system. CASA of Fresno and Madera Counties works with the court system and helps judges make informed decisions in children’s best interests. They serve with the sole purpose to give mistreated children a chance at a better life.

“A foster child with a Court Appointed Special Advocate is more likely to find a safe, permanent home, be adopted and do better in school, and is half as likely to re-enter foster care,” said Wilma Hashimoto, Executive Director of CASA of Fresno and Madera Counties. “Our CASA advocates positively impact the trajectory of foster children’s futures and we are so grateful to the Golden 1 Community Grant Program to allow our organization to enhance our recruiting and training for our CASA advocates.”

The 2018 Golden 1 Community Grant Program will contribute to 39 nonprofits throughout California, 16 of which are new recipients, for a combined total of nearly $603,000. Recipients in Fresno include:

  • Aspiranet
  • Boys & Girls Club of Fresno County
  • California Youth Connection
  • CASA of Fresno and Madera Counties
  • CASA of Kings County
  • Every Neighborhood Partnership
  • Focus Forward
  • Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries
  • HandsOn Central California
  • Reading and Beyond
  • Teach for America CCV

Since its inception in 2014, the Golden 1 Community Grant Program has partnered with 56 nonprofits in the Sacramento and Fresno regions, providing more than $2.6 million to support youth literacy and foster youth as they transition to adulthood.
